Flipping Through
A downloadable game for Windows

Summary of the Game
---------------------------------------------
Flipping Through is a game about a world of a
pop-up book, dusted with magic all around.
Calitess, who was hiding from her brother while
playing a game of hide and seek, found herself in a
room with a pop-up book wide open.
Due to her intelligence, she managed to activate a
portal!
She stepped through the portal and discovered a
whole new world...

Creative Goal
----------------------------------------------
I want the to create a childish game of an adventure
to a magical garden. Narnia popped up in my head
when I first though about this game.
Therefore, taking inspirations from Narnia, I made
a world of a pop-up book that can be entered once
the portal is activated.
I put more emphasis of immersiveness on the garden
instead of the room where it all began, due to time
constraints. I still however put in the room because
I believe that the players would have a better
understanding of the Enchanted Garden world and why
Flipping Through would make perfect sense as a name
for the game - because we flip through the pages of a
book.
The somewhat mismatch undertone of the background
sound is due to how the mindset of the character works.
As Calitess is a young child, everything she perceives is
that of a mismatched pattern.
The only colourful scene is when she is inside the garden
because there is where she feels the safest. As you'll find
out after playing the game, no one really listens to a
child. To have fairies and even tree trunks as friends,
it makes Calitess very happy.
The sfx being heard only in the garden due to how deafeaning
the real world is to her. The background music in the room
before she enters the portal and after she got back is the same,
a little funky, mystery music to her. While the scenes with
the storybook have a more upbeat whimsical tone to it.
I believe that I had made a wonderful pop-up book game, whilst
learning new softwares and Unity shaders and joints such as the
hinge joint.

Additional descriptions:
The tutorials I have been following did not
give me the results that I wanted, therefore,
I had to tweak either the codes, the shaders
or the actual texture myself. The tutorials
are still credited below. Most of the codes and
shaders used has been tweaked to
fit my understanding of how it works.
I had to learn Substance 3D (and had fun doing so)
due to the inability to get the type of tree and bushes
leaves that I want for the style that I am going for.
I also successfully made my own dialogue system that
allows me to easily change diaolgues and pictures.
